Ashopton

We had an email from a man called Steven Jackson about our old photos of Ashopton. He told us that he had an old signpost from Ashopton, here's what he had to say:

When I was a late teenager I looked after this ladies garden where I lived in Burnage M19, her husband Harold E Wild was the signpost coordinator for the footpath society, he took it down just as Ashopton was flooded, it was holding up the compost heap, had been for 30 years, I wire brushed it and scraped off the rust and repainted it, would do a better job today, it really needs shot blasting and repainting…… Harold took part in the great Kinder trespass in the 1920s, there is a bridge named after him somewhere down near Dove Dale, due to the work he did for access to the countryside. I have a photo of the bridge somewhere. (our families have been close since the 1930s)

His wife died in 1995 at 101 years of age, so all those years walking the Pennines did not do her any harm.
