Hartington Signal Box

About a mile outside the village of Hartington you can join the Tissington Trail at the old Railway Junction box.

The Junction box has recently been renovated and the public toilets have been replaced with some very smart ones, there is also a car park (Pay and Display) and an area especially equipped for horse owners.

Tissington Trail

The trail is along the old railway line (regular trains stopped in 1954) and passes by some beautiful scenery.

Muttley The field was locally known as Muttley’s Field after a horse that the ranger used.
Cyclists on the Tissington Trail

The trail is used by walkers and cyclists and can be busy at the weekends and during the school holidays.

The cyclists in the picture are probably making their way back to the cycle hire at Pilsbury, or if they are really keen back to the High Peak Trail cycle hire shop at Middleton Top.

A Mole at Ruby Wood

If you just fancy a nice walk in the countryside take the trail towards Ashbourne and there is a lovely picnic spot a short walk from the Junction box, the field is called Ruby Wood to commemorate the 40th Anniversary of the Peak National Park, it was planted with 6,000 trees in 1991.
