Hartington Royal Observer Corps Nuclear Bunker
I had a look at it assuming there would be some sophisticated filtering device but it seemed to lead straight up. Spotted the problem yet? The idea of the bunker was to protect the occupants from the nightmare happening above their heads so how is the fallout going to be kept away from the occupants? Apparently the louvres on the top are angled downwards to inhibit any radioacive material from being drawn in. Mmmmmmmm... wonder who thought that one up? The box at the bottom left of the picture used to hold a hand-cranked siren. I guess one of the ROC guys had it as a souvenir when they demobbed him. The light is 12 volts DC and was powered by a single battery under the table behind the siren box. There's a timer on the wall to allow the observers to depart to freedom and, I guess, a slow death.
