Churnet Valley Tourist Information

Cheddleton Flint Mill. Cheddleton (Tel: 01782 502907) Twin Wheel Water Mills set in the rural surrounding of the Churnet Valley, exhibits including narrow boat Vienna, flint kilns, display rooms, stationary steam engine, pottery materials, grinding machinery and furnished Millers cottage. Open Monday-Friday, 10am-5pm as required, weekends 10am-5pm.

Churnet Valley Railway. The Station, Station Road, Cheddleton (Tel: 01538 360522). Delightful steam railway from Cheddleton to Froghall calling at Consall. Open Sundays in June, Saturdays and Sundays in July, Saturdays, Sundays and Wednesdays in August plus all Bank Holiday Mondays, 11am-5.30pm.

Consall Forge Pottery. (Tel: 01538 266625). Attractive, hand-thrown, functional stoneware, teapots a speciality. Open most days 10am-5pm but please telephone to check. Demonstrations by appointment.

Dimmingsdale Off Red Road, Alton. Forest walk of about 4 miles with moderately steep climbs. Parking available.

Newlands Gallery. Foxt. NT Froghall (Tel: 01538 266334) Unusual and collectable ceramic and wood designs. Open most days of the year 9am-5pm, please telephone to check.

Oakamoor picnic site. 15 acres of woodland and picnic areas. A linear walkway leads from the picnic place first to Alton and then to Denstone.

Blackbrook Zoological Park. Winkhill, Near Leek (Tel: 01538 308293) Open daily 10.30am-5.30pm

Rudyard Lake. (Tel: 01538 306280) Shop/cafe, rowing boats and fishing available. Parking available on site of old railway station. Rudyard Lake is an important site for wildlife. There is a 4-5 mile walk around the lake for which you should allow 2-3 hours to enjoy the scenery.

Rudyard Lake Steam Railway. (Tel: 01995 672280) Trains running every Sunday, Summer Saturdays and Bank Holiday weekends. Train trips every 40 minutes from 11 am until 4.20pm. Please telephone for more information.

Tittesworth Reservoir. (Tel: 01538 300400) Visitor centre, restaurant and children's playground. Bringing to life local wildlife and the environment. Contact centre for opening times. Centre open daily from 10am-6pm.
