Where to eat

Places to eat in and around Hartington

Devonshire Arms (less than one minute walk)
This is where we eat when we have a chance to use the Barn. You can either eat in the cosy pub rooms or use the smart restaurant room. We have always found the food to be excellent and plenty of it. It can get busy during the summer months and most weekends (always a good sign), but you can usually book a table a few days in advance.

Beresford Tearoom (less than one minute walk)
Good for a snack and lovely ice creams, open daily from mid March to the end of October, only open at weekends during the winter. The tearoom also accommodates the local Post Office.

Longnor Fish & Chip Shop & Tea Room (12 minute drive)
A short drive from the barn. If you fancy excellent fish and chips that taste just like the ones you get at the seaside this is the place to go. You can have a take away or spoil yourself and eat in, service is always very quick and it's good value for money. We love this fish and chip shop, the boys would happily eat here every week.

Hartington Youth Hostel (less than five minutes walk BUT it is up hill on the way there).

Places to eat in Bakewell

Bakewell is about a 10 minute drive from Youlgrave and 20 minutes from Hartington. There is a pay and display car park behind the Farmers market. If you want to park for free, drive over the old bridge as if heading towards Eyam and turn right immediately after the bridge and head uphill towards the old station. You can park on the righthand side towards the top. You are then about a five minute walk from the town centre.

The Bakewell Pudding Parlour (opposite the chip shop)
Good meals at reasonable prices, they also do nice takeaway rolls (these are usually big).

Upstairs Café & Gift Store (opposite the Co-op)
The café is very clean and smart. Nice breakfast toasties, good coffee, varied lunchtime and teatime menus. It can get very busy as people tend to linger over their meals.

Rutland Antiques opposite the Rutland Hotel on the roundabout
